Porticus Sancti Machina
"The Hall of the Holy Machine"
This project stands as an architectural manifestation of my own personal frustrations and anxieties towards humanity's deification of the machine conjoined with explorations through music that touch on similar subject matter and, upon personal interpretation, portray emotions of pessimism, anxiety, and anger.
The machine exists on the surface a total object. Deeper investigation reveals its summation of parts - a vast array of elements set in motion cohesively to produce an animated being.
A direct derivative of its programmatic intent - a total object subdivided upon scrupulous observation, the architecture exists within a realm of direct efficiency, mechanical in nature, and unforgiving in materiality. Its presence is made known to quell its surroundings - a structure of permanence and monumentality. A structure of accountability.
The deity hangs, unphased by its elemental exposure. Left idle to rest above the plane of earthly existence. The motor's blood spills ceaselessly into a tainted pool of water, a natural rhythm echoed through the sanctuary hall. The compressed corridors release into the sanctum hall, cathedral-like in scale - a sacred space to praise Earth's subjugation and weep before the macabre.
