The Forest Factory
The Forest Factory is a modular research facility that is easily duplicated in order to be placed throughout regions affected by a steady decline of critical mangrove forest biomes. Regional benefits of healthy mangrove habitats rely on dense sections of forest, many of which are in danger of a combination of sea level rise and sediment displacement.
The facility can be easily manipulated to best suit the needs of a specific research team, meaning that each structure is unique in its layout. The framework is laid out, and each modular pod is placed within it. Following the completion of the structure, a large floating disc of mycelium is grown beneath the structure to serve as a formwork for the juvenile mangrove trees planted within the roots. Once tree growth has been monitored and determined healthy enough to survive unobstructed, the facility is taken apart and moved elsewhere to repeat the process until substantial mangrove forests are regrown.
